Swing Bed Services
Recover Closer to Home
Leaving the hospital doesn’t always mean you’re ready to go home. After surgery, illness, injury, or a hospital stay, you may still need skilled nursing care, therapy, IV medications, or additional support before safely returning home.
Kittson Healthcare’s Swing Bed program allows eligible patients to continue their recovery right here in Kittson County—even if their hospital stay took place somewhere else.
What is Swing Bed Care?
Despite the name, “Swing Bed” doesn’t refer to a special type of hospital bed. It means a patient can transition—or “swing”—from acute hospital care to skilled rehabilitation and recovery care while remaining in a hospital setting.
Could Swing Bed Care Be Right for You?
You may benefit from Swing Bed care if you are medically stable enough to leave acute hospital care but still need:
- Physical, occupational, or speech therapy
- Skilled nursing care
- IV medications or long-term antibiotics
- Wound care
- Medication management
- Daily monitoring
- Help regaining strength, mobility, or independence
Additional recovery time before safely returning home
Hospitalized Somewhere Else? You May Still Be Able to Recover at Kittson.
You do not need to begin your hospital stay at Kittson Healthcare to receive Swing Bed care here. If you qualify, your healthcare team can help coordinate a transfer so you can continue your recovery closer to home, family, and your community.
Care Designed to Help You Get Home
Your Swing Bed care plan is based on your individual recovery needs and may include physical, occupational and speech therapy; skilled nursing; IV medications and antibiotics; dietary support; pharmacy services; case management; and other services.
Throughout your stay, the goal is to help you regain strength, confidence, and independence so you can safely transition home.
Am I Eligible?
Swing Bed eligibility depends on your medical needs, recent hospital stay, insurance coverage, and need for skilled care. Medicare and many insurance plans provide coverage for qualifying patients.
Kittson Healthcare can work with you, your family, your hospital care team, and your insurance provider to determine eligibility and coordinate your transition.
