Want to meet new friends, work for the good of your community, and enjoy some good laughs, all at the same time? Then consider joining the Kittson Healthcare Auxiliary!
Membership in the Auxiliary is open to everyone - men, women, and even younger folks, and we currently boast a membership of approximately 155 active members. The annual membership fee is a minimal $2 and that $2 is budgeted toward purchasing items for the Healthcare Center, some necessary and some just to improve the lives of the residents of the nursing home and assisted living.
The Auxiliary Board approves various requests for assistance from the different departments that make up the organization and then promote activities to raise the necessary funding. We do work within the guidelines of the organization's governing board. You could say that active members are go-betweens, operating with the approval of the governing board and reaching out to the community, all the while cheerleading for the patients and residents of Kittson Healthcare.
The Auxiliary holds fundraisers such as:
- An annual Pie Social held in the Kittson Healthcare Nursing Home Lower Level Dining Room
- A themed monthly mammography give-a-way basket
- Serving Fish Fry meals at the Hallock Eagles #2617
- A Frybread Taco Fundraiser held in the early fall
- Selling Rada Cutlery (can be seen in the hospital reception area)
The proceeds from the fundraisers go to purchase items for the hospital, clinic, nursing home, assisted living, and ambulance. Items that have been purchased recently include three recliners for hospital patient rooms, end tables for the nursing home lobby, donations made towards the purchase of a Blood Bank fridge for our laboratory, chairs for clinic exam rooms, and outdoor signage for River's Edge Assisted Living.
Being a part of the Auxiliary is a good way to give back to our communities! Currently our Auxiliary members assist our community by delivering Meals on Wheels one month each year in Hallock, MN and hosts blood drives at Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock, MN multiple times each year.
Present Auxiliary Board members include Pam Taie, President, Jan Koskela, Vice President, Mary Dziengel, Secretary, Kathy Phelps, Treasurer, Sharron Bedard, Becky Coffield, Carlene Cole, Noelle Dagen, Jeanne Laude, Kathy Levenhagen, and Leonie Loer.
Donations for the Auxiliary are always accepted and greatly appreciated. Cash or check donations may be dropped off at the front hospital reception desk or mailed to Kittson Healthcare Auxiliary, PO Box 700 Hallock, MN 56728.
